Agreement to Terms

These Terms of Service ("Terms") constitute a legally binding agreement between you ("User," "you," or "your") and Story Roulette ("Company," "we," "our," or "us") governing your access to and use of the Story Roulette website at storyroulette.app (the "Site") and the Story Roulette desktop application (the "App").

By accessing our Site or downloading and using our App, you acknowledge that you have read, understood, and agree to be bound by these Terms. If you do not agree, do not use our services.

Description of Service

Story Roulette is a local multiplayer party game where players write short stories based on themed prompts, then try to guess who wrote each story. The App runs a local server on the host's device and allows other players to join via their phone or tablet browser on the same Wi-Fi network. Key features include:

• Dual-screen gameplay (TV/host screen + phone controller)
• 3-8 player support via local network
• Multiple game modes and theme packs
• Interrogation, voting, and scoring phases
• Optional Imposter and Chaos game modes

Eligibility

You must be at least 17 years of age to use Story Roulette, as some game modes contain mature themes and content. By using our services, you represent and warrant that you meet this age requirement.

If you are under 18, you represent that your parent or legal guardian has reviewed and agrees to these Terms on your behalf.

License to Use

Subject to your compliance with these Terms, we grant you a limited, non-exclusive, non-transferable, revocable license to:

• Download and install the Story Roulette App on your personal devices for personal, non-commercial use
• Access and use the Site for its intended purposes

This license does not include the right to:

• Modify, reverse-engineer, decompile, or disassemble the App
• Distribute, sell, sublicense, or lease the App to others
• Use the App for commercial purposes without our written consent
• Remove, alter, or obscure any proprietary notices on the App or Site

User-Generated Content

Story Roulette involves players writing stories as part of gameplay. You understand and agree that:

• All stories written during gameplay are stored locally on the host device and are not transmitted to our servers
• You are solely responsible for the content you write during gameplay
• You should not write content that is unlawful, threatening, harassing, defamatory, or violates the rights of others
• We have no access to, control over, or responsibility for user-generated game content
• You should exercise good judgment and respect other players' comfort levels, especially when using mature-themed game modes

Acceptable Use

You agree not to use our Site or App to:

• Violate any applicable local, state, national, or international law or regulation
• Transmit any malware, viruses, or other harmful code
• Attempt to gain unauthorized access to our systems or another user's device
• Interfere with or disrupt the App's functionality or other players' experience
• Use automated systems or bots to access our services
• Impersonate any person or entity
• Exploit the beta access code system to distribute unauthorized copies

Beta Software

Story Roulette is currently in beta. You acknowledge that:

• The App is provided "as is" and may contain bugs, errors, or incomplete features
• We do not guarantee uninterrupted or error-free operation
• We may modify, update, or discontinue features at any time without notice
• Beta access codes may be revoked at any time
• Your use of beta software is at your own risk

Intellectual Property

All content, features, and functionality of the Site and App — including but not limited to text, graphics, logos, icons, images, sound clips, software, code, and their compilation — are the exclusive property of Story Roulette and are protected by United States and international copyright, trademark, patent, and other intellectual property laws.

The Story Roulette name, logo, and all related names, logos, product and service names, designs, and slogans are trademarks of Story Roulette. You may not use these marks without our prior written permission.

Disclaimer of Warranties

THE SITE AND APP ARE PROVIDED ON AN "AS IS" AND "AS AVAILABLE" BASIS WITHOUT WARRANTIES OF ANY KIND, EITHER EXPRESS OR IMPLIED. TO THE FULLEST EXTENT PERMITTED BY APPLICABLE LAW, WE DISCLAIM ALL WARRANTIES, EXPRESS OR IMPLIED, INCLUDING BUT NOT LIMITED TO:

• Implied warranties of merchantability and fitness for a particular purpose
• Warranties of non-infringement of third-party rights
• Warranties that the App will be uninterrupted, timely, secure, or error-free
• Warranties that any defects or errors will be corrected

Limitation of Liability

TO THE MAXIMUM EXTENT PERMITTED BY APPLICABLE LAW, IN NO EVENT SHALL STORY ROULETTE, ITS FOUNDERS, EMPLOYEES, OR AGENTS BE LIABLE FOR ANY INDIRECT, INCIDENTAL, SPECIAL, CONSEQUENTIAL, OR PUNITIVE DAMAGES, INCLUDING BUT NOT LIMITED TO LOSS OF PROFITS, DATA, USE, GOODWILL, OR OTHER INTANGIBLE LOSSES, RESULTING FROM:

• Your access to or use of (or inability to access or use) the Site or App
• Any conduct or content of any third party or player
• Any content obtained from the Site or App
• Unauthorized access, use, or alteration of your transmissions or content

This limitation of liability applies regardless of the legal theory under which such damages are sought, whether based on warranty, contract, tort (including negligence), strict liability, or any other legal theory, and whether or not we have been advised of the possibility of such damages.

Indemnification

You agree to defend, indemnify, and hold harmless Story Roulette and its founders, employees, and agents from and against any claims, liabilities, damages, losses, and expenses arising out of or in any way connected with your access to or use of the Site or App, or your violation of these Terms.

Termination

We reserve the right to suspend or terminate your access to the Site or App at any time, with or without cause, and with or without notice. Upon termination, your right to use the App will immediately cease, though sections of these Terms that by their nature should survive will remain in effect.

Modifications to Terms

We reserve the right to modify or replace these Terms at any time. If a revision is material, we will provide notice prior to any new terms taking effect (such as posting a notice on our Site). What constitutes a material change will be determined at our sole discretion. Your continued use of the Site or App after any changes constitutes acceptance of the revised Terms.

Governing Law

These Terms shall be governed by and construed in accordance with the laws of the United States, without regard to its conflict of law provisions. Any disputes arising under or in connection with these Terms shall be resolved in the courts located in the United States, and you consent to the personal jurisdiction of such courts.

Severability

If any provision of these Terms is held to be unenforceable or invalid by a court of competent jurisdiction, such provision will be changed and interpreted to accomplish its objectives to the greatest extent possible under applicable law, and the remaining provisions will continue in full force and effect.

Entire Agreement

These Terms, together with our Privacy Policy, constitute the entire agreement between you and Story Roulette regarding your use of the Site and App, and supersede any prior agreements or understandings.
